In Galactic Alignment, John Major Jenkins explains the astronomical alignment that occurs in 2012 -- that of the winter solstice Sun aligning precisely with the Center of the Milky Way (the Galactic Center). The more visible and smaller event that simultaneously occurs in 2012 is the rare transit of Venus across the Sun, occurring at the anti-Galactic Center, six months prior, which could be an important marker. It seems reasonable that these transits of Venus were factored into the Long Count and influenced the Mayan awareness of time."
